Air Transport Statistics 2007 Chiang Rai International Airport CHIANG RAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Chiang Rai is geographically located to the most top north of Thailand, lying on the bank of Mekong River which is naturally running through the three territories of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand. These geographical advantages of location have made Chiang Rai become the gateway to the Golden Triangle, and consequently, Chiang Rai International Airport is playing an important role in networking the air transport systems of the three countries, as well as promoting the tourism industry in the northern region of Thailand. In 2007, there were only domestic flight scheduled operations of Thai Airways International, Siam GA and three low cost carriers (LCCs): Thai Air Asia, One-Two-Go Airlines and Nok Air, whereas there was no report of international scheduled operations. When compared with those of the 2006, the aircraft and passenger movements went up by 21.82 percent of the total aircraft movements and 9.66 percent of the total passenger movements, respectively. Nevertheless, the number of freight fell by 36.39 percent of the total freight movements. The details of the 2007 based statistics are summarized as follows. 1. Aircraft Movement The total commercial aircraft movements of the year 2007 were 6,822 movements which were divided into 6,808 domestic scheduled movements and 14 international non-scheduled movements. When compared with those of the year 2006, the domestic scheduled movements were increased by 21.96 percent, whereas the 14 international non-scheduled movements were categorized as general aviation. The main routes of the most frequented inbound and outbound aircraft movements were Suvarnabhumi-Chiang Rai, holding 53.66 percent of the total aircraft movements while the flight routes between Don Mueang and Chiang Rai were ranked second, holding 37.80 percent of the total aircraft movements. For the international non-scheduled operations, they amounted to 2.75 percent of the total aircraft movements. The commercial aircraft movements of the first peak hour were six movements, and those of the thirtieth peak hour were five movements. International Scheduled Flights There was no international scheduled operation by any air carrier in 2007. International Non-Scheduled Flights In 2007, the international non-scheduled flights were operated by Bombardier, Siam Land, Thai Flying Services and The Air Group. Domestic Non-Scheduled Flights There were 18 airline operators operating their domestic non-scheduled flights at the airport. Those airline operators were made up of as follows: | • |
4 Airline operators such as Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air and Thai Air Asia. |

2. Passenger Movement The total number of passengers was 754,462 passengers which went up by 9.66 percent of the total passenger movements when compared with those of the year 2006. Those passenger numbers could be divided into 754,442 domestic passengers who were increased by 9.66 percent and 20 foreign passengers. In terms of the main routes of which passengers frequently traveled to and from the airport, the routes between Suvarnabhumi and Chiang Rai were ranked first by 61 percent of the total flight movements. The routes between Don Mueang and Chiang Rai came second by 38.75 percent of the total flight movements, whereas the other domestic routes combined were the rest of 0.25 percent. Passenger Movements during the First Peak Hour in 2007 Compared with those of the year 2006, the total number of foreign passengers was decreased by 31 passengers, from 35 to 4. Besides, the total number of domestic passengers was decreased by 13 passengers from 694 to 681 passengers. Those domestic passengers could be divided into as follows: | • |
The number of arriving passengers was decreased by 75, from 582 of the year 2006, to 507. |

The number of departing passengers was decreased by 43, from 579 of the year 2006, to 536. |

The number of transit passengers was decreased by 126, from 128 of the year 2006, to 2. |
Passenger Movements during the Thirtieth Peak Hour in 2007 There was no international passenger during the thirtieth peak hour in 2007. The total number of domestic passengers was decreased by 7 passengers, from 506 to 499, when compared with those of the year 2006. Those domestic passenger numbers could be divided into as follows: | • |
The number of arriving passengers was increased by 12, from 366 of the year 2006, to 378. |

3. Freight Movement All of the freight transport was domestic shipments. The total number of inbound and outbound freight, which was exclusive of transit freight, was 2,741 tons which were decreased by 36.39 percent of the total freight movements when compared with those of the year 2006. Most of the outbound freight was agricultural products, while the inbound freight was documents, printed materials and electronic equipment transported from Bangkok. 4. Mail Movement In 2007, a handful of separate mail were jointly transported with freight by each flight of the operations.
