PHUKET INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Phuket is the largest island which is located down to the south of Thailand, situated in the Andaman Sea, and close to the coastal areas of provinces. With its advantageous characteristics of geography and natural resources, Phuket has become one of the world famous tourist destinations, attracting both Thai and foreign tourists from every corner of the globe.
In 2007, the tourism industries of Phuket and the neighboring provinces in
the side of Andaman Sea grew tremendously and brought in a large number of Thai
and foreign tourists traveling to the provinces. The increase in tourist numbers also
resulted in the growing number of air traffic movements, at Phuket International
Airport, in terms of inbound and outbound flights, passengers and freight by 32.09,
21.09 and 10.61 percent, respectively. The details of the air traffic movements are given as follows.
1. Aircraft Movement
The total number of commercial aircraft?s landings and take-offs in 2007 was 40,799 flights which were calculated to 32.09 percent of the total aircraft movements when compared with those of the year 2006. The total movements of 40,799 were composed of 16,884 international flights which were increased by scheduled and chartered flight operations, or amounted to 23.42 percent, and 23,915 domestic flights which were increased by scheduled flight operations of low cost carriers, or amounted to 38.98 percent.
There was the total number of 24 scheduled airlines which were divided according to the percentage of commercial flight movements in descending order
as follows:

In 2007 there were two new international scheduled airlines opening their flight route services as follows:

Malaysia-based Firefly Airlines opened and operated their new flight route services between Singapore and Phuket as of 13 April 2007. |

Thailand-based Thai Air Asia opened and operated their new flight route services between Singapore and Phuket as of 5 November 2007. |
The percentages of aircraft types, based on their total landing and take-off movements in 2007, were arranged in descending order as follows:

The number of commercial aircraft movements in the first peak hour was
18 movements which went up by 5 movements when compared with those of the year
2006, while the number of commercial aircraft movements in the thirtieth peak hour
was 14 movements which went up by 3 movements from those of the year 2006.

International Non-Scheduled Flights
Phuket International Airport handled more than 50 international non-
scheduled airline operators which were divided into international non-scheduled
airlines, general aviation and chartered flights like Mytravel, Finnair, Transaero
Airlines, Nova Airlines, Pulkovo Airlines and China Southern Airlines. All of the
mentioned airline operators were the samples of the airline operators who occupied
the high percentages of the total international non-scheduled aircraft movements at
the airport.
Domestic Non-Scheduled Flights
For domestic non-scheduled flights, they mostly were operated by Destination Air, Aerothai, and Siam Land Flying.
2. Passenger Movement
The total number of passengers in 2007 was 5,704,365 passengers, going up by 21.09 percent when compared with the total number of passengers in 2006. The number of 5,704, 365 passengers was made up of 2,190,399 international and 3,513,966 domestic passengers. The number of 2,190,399 international passengers was increased by 30.56 percent while the number of 3,513,966 domestic passengers was also increased by 15.86 percent.
When it came to international flying routes, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur,
Incheon, Hong Kong and Aranda (Sweden) were the top ranked cities where most of
the international passengers frequently flew to the airport and left for. Those top
ranked cities were arranged in descending order, according to the percentage of the
total embarking and disembarking international passenger movements, as follows:

Based on the number of arriving and departing domestic passengers, Suvarnabhumi Airport was ranked first, holding 67.78 percent of the total domestic passenger movements. While Don Mueang came second, possessing 25.68 percent, Samui was the next ranked destination, equaling 2.90 percent. Other destinations combined constituted the rest of 3.64 percent.
Passenger Movements during the First Peak Hour in 2007
The total number of international passengers was decreased by 38, from 1,747 of the year 2006, to 1,709.

The number of arriving passengers was decreased by 184, from 1,640 of the year 2006, to 1,456. |

The number of departing passengers was increased by 236, from 1,312 of the year 2006, to 1,548. |

The number of transit passengers was decreased by 206, from 425 of the year 2006, to 219. |
The total number of domestic passengers was increased by 286, from 1,532 of the year 2006, to 1,818.

The number of arriving passengers was decreased by 115, from 1,198 of the year 2006, to 1,083. |

The number of departing passengers was increased by 153, from 1,108 of the year 2006 ,to 1,261. |

The number of transit passengers was decreased by 46, from 195 of the year 2006, to 149. |
Passenger Movements during the Thirtieth Peak Hour in 2007
The total number of international passengers was increased by 130, from 1,198 of the year 2006, to 1,328.

The number of arriving passengers was increased by 148, from 803 of the year 2006, to 951. |

The number of departing passengers was increased by 158, from 779 of the year 2006, to 937. |

The number of transit passengers was decreased by 8, from 144 of the year 2006, to 136. |
The total number of domestic passengers was increased by 185, from 1,215 of the year 2006, to 1,400.

The number of arriving passengers was increased by 36, from 816 of the year 2006, to 852. |

The number of departing passengers was increased by 111, from 770 of the year 2006, to 881. |

There were notransit passengers in 2007. |
3. Freight Movement
In 2007, the number of inbound and outbound freight at the airport was equal to 18,004 tons which grew by 10.61 percent as against those inbound and outbound freight movements of the year 2006. The growing number of freight was divided into 4,736-ton international and 13,268-ton domestic freight. Most of the inbound and outbound international freight movements had its origins and destinations in Incheon, Hong Kong, Sydney and Aranda , whereas the number of inbound and outbound domestic freight movements went down by 0.87 as against those of the year 2006.
Based on the percentage of loaded and unloaded freight movements, Thai
Airways International was ranked first, holding 75.63 percent. Asiana Airlines came
second, accounting for 5.15 percent. Korean Air was the third airline which occupied
3.80 percent while other airlines combined constituted the rest of 15.42 percent.
4. Mail Movement
There were no inbound and outbound mail movements at Phuket International Airport in 2007.
